Putting People First
Right Growth in the Right Places

Affordable Living
Prioritize right growth, right places in and around our city but responsibly. Affordable living must be included in that equation.
Protecting our natural resources
Our natural sources need to be protected like the pines, Houston Toad, Colorado river. Bastrop is one of the most recognized bird cities in the nation. We need to establish a light pollution ordinance to protect that status.
We need to adopt standards to be prepared and act quickly in the event of a fire. Damage from the disaster of the Bastrop Complex fires is still visible today.
The city of Bastrop has not adopted any measures such as a Wildlife Urban Interface. We need commit to and incorporate these standards. New development should not be a “one and done”. We need to think long term. This is an investment in keeping our people and neighborhoods safe.
Congestion
It's all about being proactive. We need to work with new development and follow the plans set in place. Blakey Lane is an example of what happens when our Transportation Master Plan is not followed.
Neighborhoods need to be planned to avoid funnel points. 1 or 2 ways in and out of a subdivision is not enough. High traffic times in the morning. end of the work day, maintenance on infrastructure or worse, fire. These type of situations must be avoided.
Density
Right growth in the right places.
The word density has developed a negative connotation. Over the past year there has been a lot of contention and even division among our council members. If planned thoughtfully, density can be positive. A variety of housing types like duplexes or townhomes gives people of different income levels the opportunity for affordable living.
Sprawl
The lack of affordability in the city leads to sprawl, which detracts from the authenticity that is Bastrop. Smart growth means guided density with set parameters that allows for affordable living .
Density doesn't have to be something to fear, it's a part of any city. When done correctly in the right location residents can have desirable options on where to live without having to drive further down 95,21 and 71 until they can find something affordable.
Permitting
From what I've observed, the permitting process for builders and residents alike has been unnecessarily difficult and needs to be streamlined. I'll present to the city and champion for the implementation of a variety of pre-approved plans. The plans would be a starting point for home builders. The permitting process would be substantially shortened.
